For me currently the process is this: try to be aware of as many things as possible with each SLOW repetition. Do repetitions with my eyes closed and visualize the shapes and notes ahead of what i’m currently playing.
With each SLOW repetition of a measure or phrase I constantly ask myself these questions: what is the contour the bass voice? what is the contour of the middle voices? And of course, what RIGHT HAND FINGER should be playing what note right now?
If the piece you’re memorizing is at the right level, the left hand fingering is usually not a huge issue. The issue, as always, is proper right hand fingering. This makes or breaks memory in my humble opinion.
